Nail Avulsion

Ingrown nails are a common problem, and when conservative treatment is not resolving the problem, a partial or total nail avulsion may be required.

This is a procedure which is carried out under local anaesthetic, and is relatively pain free.

This procedure involves having either a section or the total nail being removed, and the application of a strong chemical, Phenol being applied to prevent regrowth of the problematic section of the nail.

Patients are advised not to drive after this procedure and keep weight bearing activity to a minimun for the day of the procedure.

The wound will be checked regularly and the appropiate dressings provided.
